The settlement announced this week by VW will reward owners handsomely, according to an analysis by Autolist. Thousands of U.S. consumers have been stuck with vehicles they assumed were good for the environment. But VW admitted last fall that the onboard computer adjusted the diesel emissions when it sensed an emissions test was taking place. During the tests, the emissions were reduced to within standards. The rest of the time, the cars gave off emissions well above legal standards. As a result, VW agreed to a more than $14 billion settlement, requiring it to buy back affected vehicles and terminate leases, as well as pay consumers cash reparations. After studying the details of the deal, Autolist concludes consumers will come out ahead. The company reports nominal vehicle value has gone down an average of $2,017 because of the diesel emissions cheating scandal. Owners, meanwhile, are getting $5,100 to $10,000 settlement rep...

Volvo’s 18-tonne FE Low Entry 4×2 is a manoeuvrable and versatile workhorse that will suit many

Volvo’s 18-tonne FE Low Entry 4×2 is a manoeuvrable and versatile workhorse that will suit many an urban operation and offers a driving experience similar to a regular FE. Getting to drive this Volvo FE Low Entry 4×2 in rural Gloucestershire involved something of an international journey. It started life as a regular medium-roof sleeper cab in the shared Volvo Group facility at Blainville, in Normandy, France. From there, it moved to the Netherlands, where the low-entry semi-crew cab conversion was carried out by Estepe. Then it continued north to Kristinehamn in central Sweden, where the long established (and long named) Bro Bärgningsbyggen AB recovery vehicle manufacturer fitted the car transporter body. After that, it was a short hop to Volvo HQ at Gothenburg to join the central demonstration fleet, before the longer trek back south for us to drive. On the way, it stopped off to pick up an authentic load, too – a shiny Volvo XC90. The FE Low Entry has its roots in the UK, initially designed as a specific solution to operating in London, but has now become a fully- edged model in its own right and is offered on many markets. The Volvo had barely stopped moving at th...

To get the most out of your 3D printer it needs be calibrated. Check out the best 3D printer calibration cube models and learn how to use them. Calibration cubes are simple geometric shapes (usually cubes, hence the name) that help you fine-tune your 3D printer’s settings. They enable you to achieve maximum precision and accuracy in your prints. These cubes are particularly important for assembly-required kits and lower-end machines that have not been factory-tuned. With these cubes, you can adjust your printer’s settings to produce precise, mechanical parts. There are many ways to use calibration cubes. Before we get started, however, be sure to calibrate your 3D printer’s extruder. This will ensure that any defects will be strictly mechanical and not caused by extrusion inaccuracies. What is it? The simple, classic, 20-mm cube, with its faces labeled X, Y, and Z. Also the most popular, due to its simplicity and ease of use. You should aim for each dimension (easily identified with the large letters) to be 20 mm. What is it? An amped-up version of the classic calibration cube. It features 4 layers, at 25 mm, 20 mm, 15 mm, and 10 mm, with a notch at the front to indicate orienta...

OASIS modulates hypoxia pathway activity to regulate bone angiogenesis

In the meantime, to ensure continued support, we are displaying the site without styles and JavaScript. OASIS/CREB3L1, an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident transcription factor, plays important roles in osteoblast differentiation. In this study, we identified new crosstalk between OASIS and the hypoxia signaling pathway, which regulates vascularization during bone development. RT-PCR and real-time PCR analyses revealed significant decreases in the expression levels of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) target genes such as vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) in OASIS-deficient (Oasis−/−) mouse embryonic fibroblasts. In coimmunoprecipitation experiments, the N-terminal fragment of OASIS (OASIS-N; activated form of OASIS) bound to HIF-1α through the bZIP domain. Luciferase assays showed that OASIS-N promoted the transcription activities of a reporter gene via a hypoxia-response element (HRE). Furthermore, the expression levels of an angiogeni...

In the late 19th century, the bicycle captivated America. The machine became so popular that it quickly transformed the landscape—cycling literally paved the way for today’s roadways, and it was a demand for smooth bicycle passage that resulted in the proliferation of macadamized roads. The advent of the car may have screwed all of that up for awhile, but today we’re seeing a similar transformation of the transportation landscape as cities install cycling infrastructure and bike share systems. And as companies like Uber and Lift incorporate bike share into their offerings, we’re seeing the bicycle play an unprecedented role in the economy, too. Still, there are bound to be growing pains, and as full mainstream adoption of the bicycle-as-transport becomes a fait accompli, the cries of the anti-bike set only become more plaintive and desperate. Here in New York City, the death rattle of the Automotive Industrial Complex has been both prolonged and convulsive. We’ve had old white guys in fedoras pretend to be woke by vilifying bicycles as toys for young white guys. We’ve had people sabotage bike lanes with tacks. We’ve had people sabotage… other bike lanes, but with glass thi...

Types of Circuit Breakers Register ico-categories ico-open ico-close ico-supplier ico-white-paper-case-study ico-product ico-cad

Circuit Breakers are electro-mechanical devices, typically mounted in electrical enclosures, and used for the protection of electrical circuits from overloads. Circuit Breakers are used to protect the wiring in circuits from the risk of fire due to currents exceeding the rated capacity of the circuit. The devices employ switches that open automatically when excess currents are sensed and usually require manual resetting. Brands are generally specific to the panels in which they are mounted and hence are not typically interchangeable between panels. Circuit breakers are rated based on the amount of current that can be safely carried by the circuit being protected by the breaker. Within these classes, circuit breakers are also characterized by several other operational parameters or features. These include both the underlying mechanism that operates the breaker and the type of reset features associated with the circuit breaker. In the following sections, a description of each of these specific types of circuit breakers is presented. Standard circuit breakers are devices that are commonly used in the electrical panels of homes and businesses that operate on 120V/240V single phase e...
