STAUNTON - Staunton's newest seafood restaurant is having a pop-up event collaborating with Redbeard Brewing and Waynesboro has a new furniture store — here's the buzz.

Staunton's upcoming seafood restaurant Blu Point Seafood Co. will be holding a pop-up restaurant event to celebrate Redbeard Brewing Company's 6th anniversary.

In June, the restaurant and brewery collaborated on a special beer for the event — a gose made with blueberries, coriander and local salt called BLUberry Gose.

The pop-up will be held July 20 at Redbeard (120 S. Lewis St.). The restaurant staff will be shucking oysters from noon to 5 p.m., a release said. The anniversary event goes from noon until midnight.

Redbeard is known for its big beers in small batches, which is also its slogan. The brewery offers pale ales, IPAs, wheat beers and more. The brewery opened in 2013 and bought the building it was leasing in 2017 with plans of renovations. They have been working on renovations since they purchased the building and the cosmetic renovation of the taproom will be one of the last things that will happen, according to Redbeard Brewing Owner Jonathan Wright.

The anniversary event will also include live music from 7 to 11 p.m. from Dragon Wagon, The Sugar Jackets and The Flops.

Blu Point owners Jeff and Susan Goode announced the restaurant concept in March. The two purchased the old Mockingbird restaurant building at the end of 2018, after it had sat empty for a number of years.

The new restaurant is a family affair with husband and wife duo Jeff and Susan Goode, along with help from their daughter Jessica Goode, who is the general manager at the Goode's other Staunton restaurant Zynodoa.

They are naming it Blu Point Seafood Co. and will be serving up regionally sourced seafood and oysters. The name comes from Blue Point, a hamlet on New York's Long Island, in the region where bluepoint oysters are plentiful.

They will be serving a New England style cuisine with menu options like lobster rolls, soft shell crabs, blue crabs, fry baskets, steamers and more. The menu will be about 70 percent seafood and offer other options like burgers, steaks, salads and options for children. The menu will also offer seasonal specials for certain seafood that is in season and to-go options.

They will also be building a raw bar where the window to the kitchen currently is that will offer oysters, shrimp, crab and lobster, with bar seating.

More pop-up events are expected leading up to the restaurant opening in late summer, according to a release. For more information go to blupointseafoodco.com.
